The New York State Association of Independent Schools Athletic Association Executive Secretary John Pizzi released the following announcements for the upcoming 2017-2018 Athletic Season:

- The updated 2017-2018 High School Handbook and High School Sports Standards Grid have been posted to the athletic portal on the NYSAIS website. Two schools have decided to not renew their Amity Membership for the 2017-2018 year.

- The updated 2017-2018 Middle School Handbook and Middle School Sports Standards Grid have been posted to the athletic portal on the NYSAIS website.

- The Federation List for 2017-2018 has been posted on both the public part of the website and within the portal. Those schools who are on the Federation List will be billed by the NYSAIS Business Office in the coming months. Remember that only schools on the Federation List can play PSAL, PHSAA, or CHSAA schools and will follow the NYS Commissioner's Regulations as it pertains to athletics. These schools will also follow the sport standards set up by NYSAIS or one of the other association's standards.

- If you missed the deadline for submission for the Federation List, please email John Pizzi as soon as possible.

- There have been several rules changes by the NFHS for various sports. You can find the most up-to-date rules at: nfhs.com

Of note:
- Effective January 1, 2019, all balls used in high school baseball competition shall meet the NOCSAE (National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment) standard at the time of manufacture.
- The committee also revised Rule 1-5-3, which will require the catcher to wear a chest protector that meets the NOCSAE standard at the time of manufacture, effective January 1, 2020. The NOCSAE standard has been developed to protect the heart and the cardiac silhouette from commotiocordis, which continues the committee's focus on minimizing risk of injury for players.
